How to Update Plex Media Server on Ubuntu

So you want to update your Plex Media Server to the latest version from the command line…well this is how.

  1. Browse to the Plex website here
  2. Look for  Plex Media Server and click computer, click the Linux tab for Ubuntu and then hover over 64bit or 332bit right click and copy the link address.
  3. SSH to your Plex Media Server
  4. Run this command to download the latest package – user@Ubuntu:~$ wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/0.9.12.13.1464-4ccd2ca/plexmediaserver_0.9.12.13.1464-4ccd2ca_amd64.deb
  5. Install this package with this command – user@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver_0.9.12.13.1464-4ccd2ca_amd64.deb
  6. Remove the installer file – user@ubuntu:~$ rm plexmediaserver_0.9.12.13.1464-4ccd2ca_amd64.deb
  7. Browse to you plex server http://(ip address here):32400/web/index.html#!/settings/server and verify you can see that the software has been updated

tmsh show /ltm pool
tmsh list / ltm pool all-properties

Printout system hardware information (Serial, CPU ect)
tmsh show sys hardware

Printout ltm virtual server configurations
tmsh list ltm virtual

Vlan information and stats printout
tmsh show net vlan
tmsh list / net vlan all-properties

Show Device Self ip adress &config.(including floating ips info)
tmsh list net self

Very Detailed 700 line stats
tmsh show

1. Sets up a tap interface, a tap interface is just a virtual interface inside the systsem.

sudo tunctl -u username -t tap0

-t is the interface name
-u is the unsername

Reboot Junipers Network Security Manager

So how can you reboot or shutdown Juniper’s NSMxpress Appliance?

login as the admin users via ssh.  Once logged into the NSM  appliance as admin issue the  “sudo su – root” command then enter your password from root you can enter “reboot”  or “shutdown -h” to poweroff the system. “poweroff” should also work.

 Simples!

How To Rename NIC’s In Ubuntu

I’v recently been building a GNS3 Lab and have come across a niggling problem with my NIC’s!

I bought and installed a D-Link DFE-580TX  along with an existing D-Link DFE-530TX that I already had into my GNS3 server but soon found out that the D-Link DFE-530TX wouldn’t initialise so I removed it. The problem now being that all my interface numbering were all out of sync!

  2. Phone boots software image.
  3. Switch provides VLAN information to the IP phone.
  4. Phone sends DHCP request, receives IP and TFTP information.
  5. Phone contacts TFTP server, retrieves Config file.
